The Dermatology residency at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach California is a three year, office-based residency program. It is designed to develop clinical, surgical and cosmetic skills in dermatologic diagnosis, procedures and therapy.

The residency program is a consortium with Western University and Pacific Hospital of Long Beach with emphasis on academic achievement and scientific thought as it relates to the practical approach and management of common and complex dermatologic conditions.

CURRICULUM FOR RESIDENTS OGME 1, 2 AND 3:

This residency is a three-year, office-based program designed to build skills in clinical, diagnostic dermatology as well as, surgical, cosmetic and laser procedures to treat a spectrum of dermatologic conditions.

All residents will be exposed to and manage a variety of clinical dermatology cases and will participate in multiple dermatologic surgeries. Each resident is allowed a one month elective rotation per year and will participate in a weekly Dermatopathology conference. Additionally all residents will attend the dermatology clinic at Pacific Hospital. Journal club, book review, and directed reading assignments are conducted on a regular basis.

Second and third year residents are allowed to do outside rotations in MOHS Surgery, Sclero-therapy, Ambulatory Phlebectomy, Mesotheraphy, Plastic Surgery, liposuction, hair transplantation and other rotations of interest.

All residents are allowed 14 days vacation and are required to attend the AOCD and AAD conventions. Other seminars, courses, and conferences are allowed with the approval of the program director. Our residents are encouraged to participate in scientific research and publish in medical journals.

POLICIES FOR TRAINEE RETENTION AND COMPLETION

Each year the resident must prepare one manuscript or paper under the direction of the program director, suitable for publication in medical journals. The subject matter is based on assigned topics which incorporate basic and clinical sciences.

During the residency program, two manuscripts or papers must be presented at the AOCD annual and/or mid year meetings. This is a requirement for completion of the residency program and the AOCD. These programs prepare the resident for examination and certification by the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.

First Year training consists of basic sciences and clinical exposure to Mycology, Dermatopathology and Immunology. All Residents will develop an individual supervised medical and surgical case load in the 2nd and 3rd year of training.
