Our Future
Pacific Hospital of Long Beach is stepping up to the future with the integration of an EMR.
For those of you are that are not familiar with that term, it stands for Electronic Medical Records
An EMR is a medical record in digital format that is capable of being shared across different health care settings, by being embedded in a network-connected information system. Such records may included a whole range of data, including demographics, medical history, medication and allergies, immunization status, laboratory test results, radiology images, and billing information.
Aside from increasing efficiency and decreasing costs, this record can automate and streamline workflow in health care settings and increase safety through evidence-based decision support, quality management, and outcomes reporting. For example, the time consuming and repetitive tasks for retrieving, updating, and storing records is improved in various ways. The physical space required to store thousands of medical records is eliminated because the record resides in a computerized network server.
Through synchronization, any updates to a medical record by one user will remain updated for all users, regardless of physical location. This can easily translate into error reduction. In addition, the time spent in physically retrieving and routing a medical record will be greatly diminished, thus improving the quality of patient care while increasing productivity.
